Assistant Programme Officer – Public Finance Management – Nairobi – Institute of Economic Affairs

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA Kenya) is a public policy research think-tank that provides a platform for informed discussions in order to influence public policy in Kenya. We seek to promote pluralism of ideas through open, active and informed debate on public policy issues. We undertake research and conduct public education on key economic and topical issues in public affairs in Kenya and the region, and utilise the outcomes of the research for policy dialogue and to influence policy making.

IEA Kenya is seeking to recruit dynamic persons for the role of Programme Officer – Economic Regulation and Competition to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

This position leads the policy area on Regulation and Competition Policy and reports to the Programmes Coordinator.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Conduct research and keep track of key issues in competition and regulatory policy issues in Kenya
2. Build and manage network with relevant CSO, Think tanks and private sector groups
3. Undertake fund raising for programme activity
4. Programme management and monitoring of budgets
5. Monitor and reporting on programme activities and preparation of implementation reports
6. Preparation of programme work plans

Qualifications and Competencies
1. A masters degree in a relevant field, preferably in economics, public policy, development studies, or any social science.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and command of key regulatory challenges and the effective instruments of regulatory policy
3. Demonstrable ability to undertake policy research and advocacy with focus on public finance management
4. Excellent computer skills.
5. Knowledge of leading resources on regulatory policy
