Driver – Save the Children

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently(e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff. ROLE PURPOSE:
To provide safe driving of Save the Children Somalia/Somaliland programme vehicle to staff and other authorized visitors, cleaning, and ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles in compliance with safe driving standards, ensuring the vehicle is always fuelled in readiness for trips and proper management of the fuel supply for the vehicle in accordance with Save the Children policies and procedures SCOPE OF ROLE:

Dimensions: Save the Children works in [four] regions in [Somalia/Somaliland] with a current staff complement of approximately [370] staff and current expenditure of approximately [US$37.2] million each year. KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
• To ensure the safe transportation of authorised personnel associated with the Save the Children programme and any materials or property of Save the Children are carried in a secure manner.
• To perform all routine checks (daily, weekly, monthly) required and perform the basic maintenance checks stated on the vehicle(s) assigned to the post holder. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is cleaned inside and out on a regular basis.
• To ensure that the vehicle(s) assigned to the post holder are carrying all necessary equipment, tools and documentation as per the policy of the organisation.
• To ensure that all tools and equipment provided to the post holder are kept safely and available in the car being driven. The post holder will be required to account for any loss of this equipment.
• To inform the line manager of any due vehicle service in good time, and remind the line manager of renewals required for insurance, registration or road-worthiness.
• Ensure that Save the Children vehicles comply with Government of Kenya transport regulations.
• Complete the logbook for every day trips or specific trip and complete the fuel log sheet for any fuel purchases.
• Ensure that all vehicle trips are authorized in advance by the logistics officer and no unauthorized use of vehicle takes place.
• Ensure that the keys and vehicle documents are kept in a secure place when the vehicle is not in use.
• Support the Logistics Officer in terms of cash purchase, delivery and petty issues. Ensure the effective and efficient use of all Save the Children resources in order to keep costs low and ensure the safety of staff.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by line manager, where they do not go against the Operations Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Essential
• Secondary ‘O’ level education
• A valid B, C, E Class driving license
• At least three (3) years driving experience preferably with an INGO
• Valid Certificate of good conduct
• Good knowledge of Nairobi and its environs
• Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics
• Must be a team player and capable of working with minimum supervision
• Must have good communication skills both in English and Swahili
• Must be courteous, honest and of high integrity

Desirable
• Good practical mechanical knowledge
• Ability to work under pressure and odd hours when required.
