Behavior Change Communication – Nairobi – Micronutrient Initiative

Passionate about developing and implementing solutions for hidden hunger, the Micronutrient Initiative (MI) works in partnership with governments, the private sector and civil society organizations to address micronutrient deficiency and related health and nutrition problems in underserved populations. Governed by an international Board of Directors, MI works in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America and reaches 500 million people in 70 countries. With headquarters in Ottawa, Canada MI maintains regional offices in New Delhi, India and soon Nairobi, Kenya that manage our country offices in Asia and Africa.

As we begin staffing our Africa Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya we are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to fill the following position based in Nairobi.

KENRO- 09 – Regional Advisor, Behavior Change Communication, Africa.

Overall Purpose/Broad Function
Working as part of MI’s Technical Team, and based in the Africa Regional Office in Kenya, the position advises MI staff, MI external partners and consultants in Africa on appropriate strategies for positive behavior change relating to MI’s programs, based on responsiveness, recommended practices, theory and innovation.

The position will help MI staff and stakeholders identify opportunities to improve enabling environments and encourage care-givers to more effectively seek and use health services and have providers more effectively offer micronutrient interventions, thereby increasing the overall effectiveness and impact of MI interventions in Africa.

Education and Experience
• Master’s degree essential in any of the following disciplines: public health, nutrition, social sector program policy and planning, medical/applied anthropology or similar relevant discipline; with a focus on program communications, social marketing or similar strategies for behavior change.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the behavior change field in the health sector, with a strong preference for substantial experience in Sub-Sahara Africa and understanding of nutrition.
• Solid knowledge of community development and behavioral theories that underpin effective approaches in developing effective behavior change strategies.
• Expertise and experience in designing and conducting qualitative research.
• Excellent knowledge of IT tools.
