Consultant Basic Counselling Skills – IRC

Background and Rationale: Since September 2010, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been implementing Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Hagadera refugee camp and in Kambioos camp since September 2011.

The GBV program is designed to ensure women and girls are better protected and empowered to access opportunities, services, and support responsive to their needs.

A key element of IRC’s GBV programming is the provision of survivor centered comprehensive case management including psychosocial support to GBV survivors who access services.

Currently, the IRC has a team of 65 staff responsible for GBV programming. Given the complex and demanding nature of work, there is a need to capacity build community workers to improve on service delivery

Purpose of the Consultancy
To create a deeper understanding on basic counselling skills and knowledge to the community workers
To create self awareness to help them understand different personalities at the work place
To understand the importance of ethics in counseling.

Basic counselling skills and techniques
Counseling ethics
How to conduct group therapy sessions for SGBV survivors
Different personalities at the work place
Management
Enhanced understanding of basic counselling skills, techniques, ethics and counselling practice through sample sessions.
The Consultant will work in coordination with the WPE Manager who will review the training report before signing the certificate of completion
Deliverables
Training and handouts for participants
Training report
Duration: Two weeks (14th -25th Sep 2015) whereas the weekends will not be inclusive.

Consultants Responsibilities
To meet cost of medical expenses during the consulting period.
To meet the cost of meals during the consulting period
Prepare training curriculum and handouts
Facilitation of the training
Issue certificates of attendance
IRC Responsibilities
Provide transport to and from the training venue and any other logistics involved
Pay consultancy fees at a mutually agreed rate
Provide training materials necessary for facilitation and writing materials for the participants
Organize for the training venue
Meet expenses related to the training such as conference package and accommodation

Requirements
MSC in Counseling Psychology
3-5 years experience in counseling and training
Experience working in GBV programs
Experience in Kenya and/or a refugee-setting, preferred
Be registered with an accredited counseling body
Kenyan nationals are encouraged to apply.

International allowances are not available for this position.
