Learning and Knowledge Management Specialist – Nairobi – Humanitarian Leadership Academy

Background
The Humanitarian Leadership Academy is a new global start-up networked organization whose mission is to empower people around the world to prepare for and respond to crises in their own countries.
The Academy will work with organizations from across the not-for-profit, public, technology industry, private sector and universities to help local communities across the world to become more resilient in the face of disaster by promoting and developing existing and new humanitarian preparedness and response focused learning and development opportunities.

The role
Supporting the Learning and Knowledge Advisor and part of the Kenya Academy Centre’s Learning and Knowledge Management Team to enable collectively and systematically create, share and apply knowledge, to better achieve the centre’s (and global team’s) objectives through the acquisition, management, and utilization of information and knowledge that are aimed at making improvements to the Humanitarian Response.

Scale and scope of the role
Learning and Knowledge Specialist (skillset in delivery of organizational capacity building, basic evaluation skills, adapting learning tools to local needs, basic research activities under guidance)
• Supporting the development and implementation of the Academy Centre’s Learning and Knowledge Strategy (working closely with the Centre’s Learning and Knowledge Management Advisor to agree priorities).
• Contributing to planning/ developing annual, biennial and three-year plans for outcome areas that are relevant for the function and providing leadership in the implementation and monitoring of capacity sharing activities.
• Support with the delivery of capacity strengthening / professionalization programmes for partners and other key institutions to improve delivery of robust blended learning solutions and humanitarian response in the region
• With partners, jointly implement learning / capacity strengthening programmes to various audiences
• Documenting and dissemination of learning and experiences of the Academy / different organizations in the sector, building case studies that will inform the development of professional standards / learning methodologies/ approaches in the sector
• Carry out basic DRR research in conjunction with partners and Academy Team
• Translate existing learning / knowledge materials to local dialect to ease understanding for target audiences including local communities
• Contextualize and simplify existing learning materials to ease understanding for target audiences including local communities
• Popularize platforms and learning products we have (KAYA) in the region

Document and share appropriately the lessons learned during partnerships and at the end of partnership evaluation stage.
• Assist in developing and improving methods for monitoring that will bring out monitoring data relevant to Academy’s Core strategy;
• Work closely with the Learning Advisor to analyse monitoring data and translate creatively into well documented lessons.
• Develop methods to ensure that learning usefully feeds the other Academy units, Global partners and the wider Humanitarian Sector
• On a continuous basis provide monitoring data, reports, assessments, lessons, partners’ products and other documentation to the external evaluators, and liaise with the external evaluators.
• Pull together all relevant lessons and information from other Academy units and external evaluators to inform the review and improvement of the Core Strategy.
• Organize internal learning in a creative and effective manner.
• Contributing to the team in further development of the Performance Measurement Framework, including monitoring and evaluation systems, indicators, baseline and other data collection methods
• Promoting knowledge sharing through the Academy Centre’s operational processes and strengthening links between knowledge sharing and information systems.
• Providing support for the establishment, nurturing and promotion of Communities of Practice (CoPs).
• Supporting the management of relationships with third party providers of knowledge, website facilities, and extranet, and supporting the leadership for knowledge management and information to Academy Centre.
• Supporting the encouragement of Centre staff and partners to share knowledge, ensuring they are aware of the knowledge management resources available to support their work,
• Collaborating with the Global Academy Office (GAO)’s learning team on learning platforms, tools, templates and resources (in consultation with the Learning and Knowledge Management Advisor).
• Supporting the capturing best practices and outcomes from learning initiatives, with the GAO and other Academy centers.
• Supporting the scoping, Commissioning and managing the development of online learning methodologies, working with the Digital Planning Manager.
• Supporting project planning of learning design activities to ensure that resources are allocated in advance and work is in line with the center’s outputs, with milestones created and progress tracked.
• Supporting the sourcing and engaging key resources required for curricula development including Subject Matter Experts, Volunteers, Partners, Vendors, and Content Advisory Group members.
• Support partners in capturing human success story where applicable.

General Responsibilities.
• Successfully implement above responsibilities and assigned activities (and associated budgets) in work plans, consistent with Academy Policies;
• Contribute effectively to planning, monitoring, reporting and information dissemination of Academy work;
• Comply with and foster adherence to the established Academy policies, regulations, guidelines and procedures;
• Participate actively in organization‐wide learning and other joint activities.
