Monitoring and Data Officer – World University Service of Canada

World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian non-profit organization with a mission to foster human development and global understanding through education and training. WUSC is working in partnership with Windle International – Kenya (Formally WTK) to implement the Kenya Equity in Education Project (KEEP), which will improve retention and performance of marginalized girls in primary and secondary school in northern Kenya. KEEP will also contribute to the opportunities of refugee girls and their families by investing in their future capacity to succeed.

General Duties
The M&D officer will work closely with the Senior Monitoring and Data Officer to manage the M&D functions of the WUSC data and report writing. The M&D officer is expected to provide expertise to ensure efficient, effective and timely planning and execution of the various project monitoring processes and activities.
Specifically, the M&D officer is responsible for the following:
• Support the Senior Monitoring and Data Officer in ensuring the WUSC Monitoring framework is operationalized
• Support in developing project level monitoring systems to key project indicators
• Working closely with the Senior Monitoring and Data Officer to coordinate and communicate quantitative data requirements to the project staff.
• Working closely with the Senior Monitoring and Data Officer to develop appropriate data collection tools and systems for tracking and monitoring progress,
Specific M&D Duties:
• Tracking the progress of activities, proper data collection,
data verification and audits; and ensure timely feedback to enhance data quality and reliability.
• Supporting in data review, processing, including data transfer, entry, verification and cleaning; and ensure forms are filled according to compliance protocols.
• Provide day to day verifying data quality and ensure all data is input into database platform and analysed in an integrity manner;
• Reviewing and analysing weekly reports to identify the causes of potential bottlenecks in project implementation and to enhance quality of data collection and reporting.
• Support in the training of quantitative data collection methodologies in the field
• Ensure project staff are using data collection tools effectively and that the data they are collecting informs the results intended.
• Ensure reliable, accurate and completeness of the data collected; analyse the data collected from the field
• Develop and maintain database backup and filing systems; Maintain a data management system using Excel, Access, or other data management and analysis software;
• Undertake visits to the field throughout the project, as needed to support and/ or supervise data collection or verify data quality;
• Contribute to the documentation of program events such as meetings, events and workshops;
• Under the supervision of Senior Monitoring and Data Officer, perform other tasks as required.

Reporting Duties:
• Ensure timely collection of monitoring data
• Maintain specific data sets for reporting
• Assist as required with all relevant project reports
• Respond orally and in writing to inquiries concerning the project;
• Other duties as required.

Expected Qualifications for the M&D Officer
• A university degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, economics or related field.
• Minimum five years’ experience working in monitoring and evaluation
• Experience and knowledge of quantitative data collection and analysis is essential
• Excellent computer skills including use of M&D software: SPSS,STATA or Epi Info
• Knowledge of international development, and with issues that impact refugees and host communities;
• Demonstrated M&D field experience: Skilled in collecting, manipulating, synthesising and analysing data.
• A Kenyan national
