Camps Program Manager – Migori – Elective Africa

Summary: Elective Africa ‘’EA’’ is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Camps Program Manager ‘’CPM’’ with field skills in social development and/or environmental conservation projects to join our unique Expedition Company.

Elective Africa is an organization in the education travel industry; a leading organizer of healthcare electives, gap breaks and volunteering expeditions, and is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

We are seeking to expand our programs to offer travel experiences to working professionals and gap year students.

Our programs will be geared towards maximizing the benefits to the communities where we will be based by committing year round to the projects irrespective of whether we have volunteers.

At Elective Africa, we provide life-changing experiences to our participants to make positive impact on the communities and institutions that we work with while at the same time improving their professional skills and some time away from their busy/normal schedules.

This varied and exciting role will involve establishing the EA camps concept from the ground to managing and operating the camp through coordinating the expedition activities on the ground in addition to research and development on sustainable tourism projects.

To succeed, you need to have experience in setting up successful projects, passion for tours and travel industry with an emphasis on sustainable tourism, target driven, detail oriented and tenacious.

The successful CPM will have a proven track record of successes in their career as a project manager.

Responsibilities
Develop the EA Camp Product by creating a full product line that should complement our existing market niche.
Establish the legal and regulatory requirements for setting up camps within communities for sustainable tourism projects within the select locations
Develop relationships with local communities and county leadership to support the projects.
Establish the suitable locations to set up the EA camps project, taking into consideration the activities to be undertaken.
Identification of community and environmental projects that can be undertaken.
Assessment and sourcing of the required infrastructural resource such as Builders of tents, Land surveyor.
Plan and package the camp product and create template itineraries in coordination with the Business Development Officer.
Harmonize ground-handling resources to ensure there is adequate housing, staffing and other resource needs for delivery of the product.
Market the camps projects in coordination with the Business Development Officer

Requirements
A bachelors degree with a minimum of second class honors upper division
A minimum of 5 years experience in community development program management
A creative, innovative and detailed oriented person with an entrepreneurial mindset
A self starter with superior organizational and planning skills
Team player and ability to comfortably relate with cross cultural teams
Should possess outstanding communication skills (writing and verbal)
Ability to work long hours, self driven with limited or no supervision
Travel industry experience or a passion for travel will be an added advantage
