Chef – Nairobi – Dumaworks

Responsibilities
Cooking will be for a mix of Kenyan and expat (US, European) professionals with busy schedules.

The chef will also be expected to purchase food, prepare food in a timely manner, and clean up and maintain kitchen during and after cooking.

On occasion, we may also host BBQs and group events that we would ask the chef to cater. Larger events would be paid as an additional fee to the chef

Required
Ability to plan a menu for a team of 7 people (3 times a week, breakfast and lunch)
Ability to budget for food and purchase items as needed for cooking
Ability to prepare a range of cuisines, including Italian, Indian and Continental dishes (basic examples might include deli sandwiches, bbq, salads, pastas, curries, rice and vegetable dishes, soups); bonus for anyone who can prepare Mexican or other Asian cuisines
Creative, affordable ingredient sourcing and menu planning
Ability to read recipes and copy them accurately
Ability to make simple but tasty breakfast foods (eggs, toast, smoothies)

Desired Experience:
Past professional experience as a sous or other staff chef (home or hospitality venue is fine)
Cooking experience in Europe or from foreign cooking schools/instructors, a plus
A Diploma or higher in culinary arts, food & beverage production or related field
Salary range will depend on experience & skill, which will be tested at the hiring company’s office; estimated KES 20,000 to KES 35,000

The Chef will be given a monthly budget for groceries, and be expected to manage that accordingly
