Strategic Planning and Coordination Unit – Food and Agriculture Organization – Nairobi

With guidance from FAOR and in close collaboration with the Deputy FAOR and technical sectors the Head of the Strategic Planning and Coordination Unit (SPCU) will:
1. STRATEGIC PLANNING
• Analyse and verify programme contribution to CPF, UNDAF, MTPII and other strategic organization documents.
• Contribute to the design of systems for effective county work planning.
• Perform an analysis of the proposed strategic goals, strategic objectives and activities to identifying gaps in programming and policy coordination.
• Support strategic planning for field programming.

2. COORDINATION
• Coordinate the south-south cooperation modality.
• Assist in networking and management of IFIs relations and programmes.

3. RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
• Profile and characterize diversified key donors for targeting, including multi-laterals, Government, Corporate, National Offices;
• Develop a ROBUST resource mobilization strategy and identify areas of comparative competency, expertise and skills and investment required.
• Work with communication and program department on the message, products and processes (marketing tool) to be used in approaching potential donors
• Develop a mapping of donor priorities and areas of comparative advantage to FAO country programming framework.
• Identifying gaps in funding and support identification of potential funding avenues.
• Prepare policy and analytical briefs for the FAOR on strategic partnerships and resource mobilization issues.

4. PARTNERSHIP
• Support the development of new corporate partnerships and ensure strong and effective working relationships with existing partners. (UN, Donors, Technical Institutions, Corporates (KPMG, Master Card) etc.)

5. YOUTH
Launch a strategy for the youth and campaign for increased visibility and activities targeting them.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
• University Degree in social sciences, development planning, international relations or related field
• Five years of relevant experience in Strategic Programme Planning and Sectoral Coordination or other relevant discipline.
• Previous experience in Concept and Proposal Development.
• Working knowledge of English

SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
• Ability to work closely with Governments, NGOs and understanding multi-lateral institutions in complex projects.
• Ability to Coordinate Projects and Liason with National and County Governments.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to bring diverse stakeholders together over a common goal
• Quality of both oral and written communication skills on technical issues in English
