Lead – Technical and Vocational Education – United States International University – Nairobi

Purpose
This role will provide county level youth coordination support to the USAID Empowered Youth Project working primarily with Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions in the select counties. The Lead for Technical and Vocational Education will report to the USIU-Africa Project Lead.

Project Responsibilities
Lead on youth coordination activities at the TVET level.
Provide technical expertise on career development and life skills transformation.
Support activities of the Career Centers training in HEIs
Support TVETs to develop workforce development short courses in high potential sectors identified during the labor market assessment.
Train select HEI staff on how to identify opportunities for curricula enhancement, review, design and deliver competence-based curricula for the identified high growth sectors.
Provide support to county liaison officers to identify and strengthen youth workforce development with private sector organizations and generally enhance their capacity.
Coordinate activities that strengthen the capacity of select HEI’s to design their own contextual innovation and acceleration centers
Establish partnerships between HEIs and public sector partners such as national and county governments to better connect youth to essential services and opportunities
Present project updates and reports to the Chief of Party and immediate supervisor including weekly bulletins, and monthly and quarterly USAID reports.
Undertake field visits and meetings with project staff, donors and partners.
Supervise County Liaison Officers

Research Responsibilities
Design data collection instruments.
Planning and collecting data using a variety of methods including but not limited to field data collection, key informant interviews, telephone, and online surveys.
Coordinate field surveys.
Assist with drafting and editing of project reports.
Developing, implementing and evaluating key stakeholder interviews
Undertake desk reviews, data analysis and data visualization.

Qualifications and Experience
Master’s degree in Business or Social Sciences.
Minimum of 5-years’ experience working with young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) including young people with special needs and adolescent girls.
Experience working on youth related projects in Isiolo, Kakamega, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kiambu, and Mombasa will be an added advantage.
Proven experience with Kenyan higher education institutions (HEI) and TVETs
Ability to supervise a diverse team based at the counties.
Adept with acumen and skills to establish and build partnerships with government officials and private sector firms.
High degree of discipline to interact and work with youth.
Ability to work under tight schedules and meet deadlines.
Data collection, analysis and visualization skills.
Quality results oriented and team player

Method of Application
The holder of the position will be expected to perform other relevant duty as may be required by the line supervisor. The position involves considerable travel to different counties in Kenya to monitor project activities, meet and obtain reports from partners. This is an initial twelve (12) months contract with possibility of renewal.
