Responsibilities
Administer and resolve all technical maintenance issues.
Maintain an efficient and safe working environment for all employees.
Perform regular audit on all safety control programs.
Design efficient training programs and prepare all short and long term programs and ensure achievement of all objectives with required budget.
Prepare an efficient schedule for all production operations and assist in installation and maintenance of all machines and tools.
Collaborate with various departments to maintain mechanical integrity of all plant programs.
Administer all activities and assist in manufacturing of all new products and recommend improvements to existing products.
Design all preventive maintenance programs in coordination with maintenance and engineering staff.
Evaluate all production activities and prepare reports for all activities and inspect all associate plant machines and equipments.
Analyze all equipment requirements and assist in requisition of all tools and equipments.
Resolve all maintenance issues and recommend improvements to same if required.
Maintain and review everyday logs and assist to resolve all issues and provide support to all engineering activities and participate in all facilities maintenance meetings.
Review and recommend improvements of all SOP procedures and perform troubleshoot on all plant activities and resolve all issues and assist facilities manager to implement all changes.

RequirementsHuman Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking a Researcher for its Africa Division. The Africa Division works to promote human rights improvements in Africa.

The Central Africa Republic (“CAR”) Researcher will primarily be responsible for developing and implementing a research and advocacy agenda focusing on human rights conditions in CAR.

The position will be based in the Nairobi office and require regular travel to CAR.

Responsibilities:
Research, monitor and document human rights abuses by collecting and analyzing information from a wide variety of sources including governments, local media, NGOs, victims, witnesses, journalists, diplomats, security forces and others in the field;
Conduct fact-finding missions in CAR;
Write and publicize reports, briefing papers, letters, news releases, op-eds, and submissions to international bodies based on the findings of your research;
Develop and implement local, regional, and international strategies to change abusive laws, policies, and practices;
Present human rights issues and concerns to government officials, opinion leaders, inter-governmental agencies, and the media;
Work closely with local and regional human rights organizations to ensure that the work of HRW in CAR complements and enhances their own work;
Respond promptly to queries from the media, public, and colleagues in the human rights community and take initiative to project concerns in public debate;
Liaise effectively with HRW staff located in multiple locations throughout the world to ensure effective coordination and delivery of activities;
Travel to CAR and to other locations internationally, as required, in order to carry out research and advocacy; and
Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Education: An advanced (graduate) degree in international relations, journalism, law, social sciences, or related studies is required.

Experience: A minimum of six years of experience working on human rights issues in the region of central Africa, including at least three years of previous experience on CAR, is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge:
Fluency in French and English are required.
Ability to identify, research, analyze and effectively communicate human rights issues in CAR in a rigorous, timely and sophisticated fashion is required.
Ability and sensitivity to conduct interviews with a wide range of people, including victims, witnesses, and government officials, are required.
Ability to develop and implement realistic and effective local and international advocacy strategies in order to identify and seize advocacy opportunities is required.
Knowledge of and experience working in international human rights and familiarity with international human rights law are required.
Solid field research and documentation skills are required.
Strong initiative and follow-through, the capacity to think creatively and strategically, excellent writing and editing skills, and a dynamic public speaking ability are required.
Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW, as well as with external partners, are required.
Ability to work quickly and effectively under pressure with a broad range of people and as part of a team is required.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically about the global and local media environments and how to use the media and electronic media to further advocacy goals is desirable.
Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate developing and urgent events is required.

Proven working experience as a Plant Technician for over 2 years
Must have a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise
Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
Computer literacy
Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
